Roche's Limit

This coffee table is inspired by the ‘Roche’s Limit’. Roche’s Limit is an astronomical term defined as the minimum distance at which a celestial body, held together only by its own gravity, will disintegrate due to tidal forces exceeding the body’s gravitational self-attraction, like how the rings of Saturn were formed over time. This piece aims to capture that fleeting moment of dissolution of an object, coming in close contact with a larger entity. This phenomenon oddly resembles the cycle of life, as death doesn’t have to be the end, and can lend itself to the creation of something beautiful. The table consists of a concrete base, cast metal stand, and glass top.
